Higehiro Season 1 Recap
The story starts off with Yoshida, a 26-year-old working man, who confessed his love to Airi Gotou, a senior at work. However, his confession was rejected, and he got heartbroken after five years of unrequited love. This leads to him getting drunk, and on his way back, he meets a girl named Sayu, squatting under a telephone pole. Yoshida was so drunk that he decided to let Sayu stay with him for the night, in exchange for “miso soup made by a woman.”
The next day, Yoshida fails to remember what happened but ends up letting Sayu stay with him. Yoshida soon goes on a movie date with Yuzuha which has Sayu anxious that the two are in a relationship, which would mean she would be kicked out of Yoshida’s apartment. Sayu asks Yoshida for his permission to be allowed to get a job to which he nonchalantly agrees.
After making friends with Asami at work, Sayu spends her life living with Yoshida. Soon, Sayu’s brother Issa makes an appearance, intending to take Sayu back home. Yoshida and Sayu talk things over with Issa, as he asks them about their current situation and the fact that Sayu must return home. Sayu eventually ends up going home with her brother. After meeting Sayu’s mother and having a heated dinner table argument, Yoshida declares that he would take care of Sayu until she is an adult.
Soon, Sayu confesses her feelings to Yoshida, but Yoshida says that he likes mature women and that, he does not feel the same for Sayu. After 2 years when they both meet again, the two do a brief reenactment of when they first met one another.
Higehiro Season 2 Plot
This slice-of-life anime revolves around a 26-year-old regular salaryman named Yoshida who wakes up one Sunday morning, only to find an unfamiliar high school girl in his tiny apartment room. This takes us back to the night before, which did not really go as planned and was certainly, not the most memorable one for Yoshida. Yoshida ended up getting very drunk after he was rejected by his long-time unrequited crush, Airi Gotou after he confessed his feelings to her. While heading back home in a drunken state, Yoshida runs into Sayu Ogiwara, a runaway high schooler. She asked him to let her stay the night, and with his judgment clouded by alcohol, Yoshida complied.
When he sobers up the next day, Yoshida asks Sayu how she ended up at his apartment. Sayu reveals that she had run away from her family and home in Hokkaido and has been prostituting herself to random men, in exchange for a place to stay. After getting to know her backstory, Yoshida feels sorry for her state, and thus, is unable to kick her out of his house. Thus, despite his reservations about letting an underage girl live with him, Yoshida and Sayu start living together in his apartment, and this marks the beginning of their new life together.
