Darling in the Franxx Season 2 Release Date, Plot, Recap, Cast and Where to Watch

With its growing popularity among anime watchers, there is buzz around the rumors of the release of Darling in the Franxx Season 2. This sci-fi anime while exploring the various matured themes and concepts within it, gained attention of people, after the first season was released in January 2018. Since then, fans of the show have not stopped hoping for the release of a second season.

On one hand where anime like Neon Genesis Evangelion captivated fans with its psychological spin on the popular ‘mecha’ genre, Darling in the Franxx went ahead on the romance route. It ended up becoming a commercial hit and since then, fans cannot seem to forget about it. It has been five years since the release of the anim’s first season, and while there has been a manga adaptation that followed, no news of a second installment has been out.

Darling in the Franxx Season 2 Plot

In a post-apocalyptic future, the human race is driven to the point of extinction because of giant beasts known as Klaxosaurs Such fear led to the surviving humans into taking refuge in massive fortress cities called Plantations. The adults live peaceful and uneventful lives within the Plantations where procreation and relationships have become obsolete.

To defend the Plantations, humanoid military weapons called Franxx were created. The children raised here are trained to pilot the Franxx—the only weapons known to be effective against the Klaxosaurs. This was to be done in boy-girl pairs. Since these children, who were known as ‘parasites’, have been taught nothing but how to pilot these machines, they are unaware of the outside world and are only able to prove their existence by defending their race.

After a century of warfare against the humanoid military weapons Klaxosaurs, Hiro, a parasite, who at first is viewed as a prodigy, has lost his motivation and self-confidence after failing an aptitude test. After his encounter with a girl with the codename Zero Two, he is invited to pilot the mecha with her, and the duo easily defeats the Klaxosaur in the ensuing fight. Hiro has now been given a chance at redeeming himself for his past failure. Will he be able to do it?

Darling in the Franxx Season 1 Recap

In a fictional distant future, the remnants of the human race are moved to fortress cities called “Plantations” on the devastated Earth to enjoy what was left of civilization. In one such plantation named “Cerasus,” the day before a ceremony for parasites, Hiro, one of the parasite candidates, failed the final test and was disappointed. After he goes to the forest, he meets a girl named Code Zero Two, and two horns seemed to grow out of her head.

As Hiro becomes her new partner, it is rumored that Zero Two is capable of piloting a Franxx on her own. Hiro’s fellow pilots thus become wary of Zero Two due to her reputation. To test Hiro’s abilities, the leadership of APE instructs him to participate in a mock Franxx battle, however, he is forbidden from partnering with Zero Two. As we move forward in the story, an incident leads to the girls dividing the house in half to avoid the boys’ behavior.

As we reach the climax of the season, we see that Hiro wants to reunite with Zero Two, who is mentally connected to Strelizia Apus and travels to space with other parasites. After getting separated from their squad mates, both of them travel to the end of the universe with Strelizia True Apus, to settle it once and for all with VIRM. On Earth, the parasites who returned from space started living their own lives. While they encountered separation time and again, they tried to become the adults they wished to be, slowly.
