BOFURI Season 3 Release Date, Plot, Recap, Cast and Where to Watch

After one successful season and the second one in running, fans have been speculating the release of BOFURI Season 3. With game type anime becoming the new trend in the anime industry and gaining more popularity, BOFURI has been gaining attention of people around, ever since its release in 2020.

However, there has been no official statement regarding its release. Since, the second of the anime is still in its running, there is still time in the release of the third season. Where this show is a little different from other virtual reality-based anime, is that the characters aren’t trapped here, they log in and out at will, there’s no evil conspiracy at play, and thus, nothing to lose.

BOFURI Season 3 Plot

Set in a gaming type backdrop, the story of BOFURI centers around the character of Kaede Honjou, who upon getting invited by her friend Risa Shiramine, reluctantly agrees to play the game New World Online; a very popular VRMMO played by thousands of people across Japan. Thus, she starts to play the game under the alias of ‘Maple’. While Kaede does not bear hatred towards games, what she truly hates, is pain.

Kaede, decides to put all her points in VIT to minimize pain. As a result of this, she has extraordinarily high defense, but moves slowly, cannot use magic, and even a small rabbit can get the best of her. Due to her such high defense, Maple also acquires overpowered skills such as Total Defense, Devour etc. These skills, allow her to destroy most enemies with a single hit, as well as endure hits from enemies as well.

It is due to her skills that only after a few days of playing the game, Maple claims third position in a server-wide event, gaining a reputation as a player who is both unkillable and extraordinarily powerful. Now, with the ability to nullify all sorts of damage, Kaede goes on adventures. As she progresses through the game, she meets new friends and acquaintances, helping her complete the new levels and events.

BOFURI Season 2 Recap

While continuing from where season 1 was left off, Maple reaches the newly added level 4, which is a Japanese-themed area set in permanent night. After going through few more adventures with her friends, Later, Maple teams up with Payne for the game’s fourth event. After this, she invites everyone over for a Christmas party where they open the Christmas-themed items they got during the event. Kaede missed out on reaching Level 5 with the others as she was suffering from cold. Thus, she decides to take on the Level 4 boss by herself.

Maple next faces the actual Level 4 boss and defeats it mercilessly with her newly gained Pandemonium skill. Amidst all of this, Risa finds she is all alone in her house and calls up Kaede for some comfort back in the real world. Next, Maple clears the level of haunted mansion and obtains the items Sally wanted. Moving to the second day of the event, Maple and Sally, continue to make their way through their respective towers. Reaching the tenth floor, the pair faces off against the event’s final boss, who possesses powerful attacks and speed. Even though at first both of them were subdued by the boss, they still managed to defeat it.

Maple arrives on the seventh floor, where controlling some monsters into becoming companions is possible, which will allegedly prove useful for the game’s eighth event. Soon, Kanade fights against a Mirror Slime, which can transform to match their opponent, and makes it their companion, naming it Sou.
